Jalapeno Cheddar Biscuits
Prep Time: 15 minutes | Cook Time: 15 minutes | Total Time: 30 minutes
Ingredients:
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tbsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp garlic powder
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
6 tbsp unsalted butter, cold and cubed
1 and 1/2 cups cheddar cheese, shredded
1 jalapeno, diced and seeded
3/4 cup and 2 tbsp heavy cream*
1/2 tbsp melted butter, for brushing (optional)
Instructions:
Preheat oven to 400°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
Combine the flour, baking powder, salt, garlic powder, and cayenne pepper in a bowl and set aside.
Then add the cold butter to the dry ingredients and cut in using a pastry blender.
Add the cheese, diced jalapeno, and half and half. Stir the mixture with a fork until a ball of dough forms.
Kneaded the dough minimally, about 10-12 times. (Fold, press, turn)
Use your hands (don’t use a rolling pin) to flatten the dough to 1" thick, and lightly dust a round biscuit cutter with flour.
Making close cuts, press the biscuit cutter down into the dough, and drop the biscuit onto your prepared baking sheet.
Once all the dough is used, bake the biscuits in the oven for 10-15 minutes or until lightly golden brown.
Remove from the oven. If desired, brush with melted salted butter immediately after removal. Serve warm and enjoy.
-
Swap out the heavy cream for buttermilk or half and half, if desired.
Your biscuit should double in height, have a flat, crisp, and golden-brown top, and horizontal cracks on the sides (indicating flakiness).
